Feed, Food & Future offers market-led science-based innovation. Within the areas of antibiotic replacement, disease diagnosis and protein optimization, we have a strong portfolio under development. As well as developing own products, we work jointly with third parties to bring ideas through the development process.
We are working with the feed additives sector in conjunction with the livestock and health sectors to evaluate alternatives to antibiotics. Our work focuses on micro organisms of concern - that is, concern to livestock and of potential of concern to humans (eg zoonotic pathogens, resistant E. Coli).
Through partnerships with leading Universities we have access to specialist academic networks and work with some of the leading scientists in the field of antimicrobial resistance and disease diagnosis. We take a holistic approach to look at the bigger picture, including tackling the viral diseases which can subsequently lead to bacterial infection and the use of antibiotics.
Plants have an unlimited range of potent molecules with health effects. There is increasing attention on the replacement of synthetic chemicals with naturally-sourced plant bioactives. Our work involves identifying and characterising specific active molecules for pharmaceutical development.
The role of the gut in immunity and the influence of diet on health are gaining increasing recognition. Animal nutrition is considered to be several decades ahead human nutrition; probiotics, gut conditioners and natural solutions having been tried, tested and proven in animals. We are only now beginning to apply our extensive knowledge of animal nutrition to humans. This is a hugely interesting area of research.
Good ideas need robust science in order to make it successfully through to commercialisation. We have access to a range of high quality facilities including Biosafety level 2 laboratory, small animal facilities, infection unit and large animal testing. We can also carry out trials under commercial or farm conditions.
